IMaR Technology Gateway
Case Study: Astellas Ireland

Astellas Ireland is a multinational pharmaceutical company with operations in Ireland. They employ over 400 people across three locations in Ireland where they manufacture and globally supply a range of treatments, including immunosuppressant drugs. The company needed to develop a robust track and trace system for their hazardous waste.

Astellas received funding for an Innovation Partnership Feasibility study. The IMaR Technology gateway got to work investigating the feasibility of using Internet of Things technologies, such as RFID scanning and web-services integration, to address the problem of track and trace of pharmaceutical waste from source to industrial disposal overseas.
