Investigating Motor Operation and Potential Remote Monitoring Options For Duck Feed Dispenser

Investigating Motor Operation and Potential Remote Monitoring Options For Duck Feed Dispenser

An initiative by an innovative Irish company

Papa Turf Limited is an Irish Company with a new initiative to develop a mechanism to dispense food to ducks without the environmental impact that use of bread as feed causes. IMaR Technology Gateway, through the Enterprise Ireland Innovation Voucher programme, supported Papa Turf’s, The Feed Ducks Initiative, in proving the validity of its design for the feeder.
With environmental considerations to the forefront of topics being discussed, nature areas are more sought out as places to visit as a recreational activity to embrace the environment. Papa Turf through their `The Feed Ducks Initiative’ seek to provide a mechanism to feed ducks in a sustainable, low impact way.

Validating Design & Telemetry Options

Following issues with motors, resulting in failures Papa Turf sought out IMaR to review their prototype design and requested telemetry options as considerations for the future, to provide confidence before commencing manufacturing. The feed systems, being in remote locations, were self-powered using a battery and photovoltaic (PV) cell. IMaR investigated the design of the motor arrangement and concluded that there were no obvious design issues with their system. In addition, IMaR provided recommendations on, battery size, PV cell size and telemetry to monitor these remote feeders and thereby minimise site visits.

The Papa Turf & IMAR Technology Gateway partnership

IMaR provided key input on the overall design of the dispenser, which is now ready for bulk manufacture; and a roadmap for further development. I am delighted with the outcome of working with IMaR and look forward to working with them in the future.
